Journal- What are the pros and cons to photo editing? What are some examples of when photo editing is fun and appropriate? When can photo editing be inappropriate or too much?
Photo editing can make things look better or enhance certain parts of a photo and that is a great tool. The bad part is that it is not how the image really looks and it can lead people to have false ideas about something. Photo editing can be fun to change up your personal photos. Maybe you have red eye or want to get rid of a pimple on your face. That's okay for the most part. The bad side of photo editing has to do with when the picture is drastically altered and is used publicly, maybe for an advertisement. When that happens, the consumers see an image that is touched up and made to look perfect; however, that is most likely not how that image looks in real life. One example I can think of right away is how girls' perceive their own bodies compared to those of the models in magazines and ads. Those pictures have been so retouched. It usually isn't even close to what they actually look like. If these girls didn't know that, though, they would try really hard to look like them even though it is nearly impossible without bringing a lot of harm to yourself.
